October 23 Message From Rev. Tam

Greetings Orchard Covenant Church Family,

Here is what I want to share this week. For those who have live a little while you know that life has a way of changing our plans. We plan our days, our travel, our time with family, and then something unexpected happens. That was my story this week. I hadn’t planned on being at Ashram by myself. My husband, Pastor Michael, was going to drive, but our plans changed when someone needed urgent help with an immigration filing. Because I was tired and hadn’t prepared to drive, staying home felt easier. However, he encouraged me to go, so the next morning I packed my bag, got in the car, and went.

Driving up, my mind began musing the way it often does when I am alone. Maybe it’s the pastoral part of me that can’t help but think about how life happens for all of us. I found myself reflecting on how often plans change in this life without notice and without our permission. We can plan every detail and still face circumstances we never expected. My drive to Ashram wasn’t that serious, but it made me think about how life is like this. Can we be flexible when plans change and still trust that God is at work in it all? What if what we didn’t plan is still part of God’s plan?

Perhaps we can consider that the gift isn’t in how the plan works out, but in learning to walk with the One who already knows where the road will lead. Change has a way of inviting us to grow, to stay flexible, to keep believing, and to remember that even when life moves in directions we didn’t expect, God walks with us through it all. Some change brings blessing, some change builds patience, and some change becomes the lesson learned we didn’t know we needed. Through it all, we can rest in the promise from Jeremiah 29:11 that says, “For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord, “plans to give you a future and a hope.” In all, remember this: in this life, change will rewrite our plans. Your part is to take a breath, stay flexible, and know that it will all be okay.

With flexibility and peace,
Pastor Tamara
